Non-profit Aims to Restore Traditional Values in Youth Relationships Amid AI Concerns
SafeBae's 'Vibe Check' seeks to guide young people on consent and respect, offering a resource in an era of increasing reliance on artificial intelligence.

In response to growing concerns about the influence of artificial intelligence on young people's understanding of relationships, Safe Before Anyone Else (SafeBae), a youth-led non-profit, has launched Vibe Check, an online tool intended to guide adolescents on matters of consent and respectful conduct. The initiative arrives as traditional values and guidance from trusted adults seemingly diminish, with many youth turning to digital sources for advice.
A recent UK study revealed that 1 in 10 young adults have consulted AI for sexual health information. A 2025 Pew Research Center report further indicated that 1 in 5 teens have engaged in romantic relationships with chatbots. These statistics underscore a growing trend of reliance on technology for sensitive matters, potentially eroding the importance of human connection and established moral frameworks.
Val Odiembo, a youth programs manager at SafeBae, expressed apprehension about this development, noting that AI may reinforce harmful actions and detract from genuine human interaction. Vibe Check emerges as an alternative, aiming to provide a more grounded and ethically sound approach to relationship guidance.
The tool is designed to walk young people through scenarios related to consent, boundaries, and potential misconduct. Shael Norris, co-founder and executive director of SafeBae, stressed that Vibe Check is rooted in the organization's decade-long experience working with young people, not in artificial intelligence. This human-centric approach is vital for instilling values and principles that promote responsible behavior.
Users are presented with various situations and questions to encourage self-reflection on their conduct and its potential impact on others. Vibe Check offers resources, including mini-lessons on topics such as the freeze response and consent laws related to alcohol. These lessons aim to equip young people with the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions and uphold ethical standards.
The tool's emphasis on accountability is paramount. Vibe Check encourages users to listen, apologize without pressure, and respect boundaries – principles that align with traditional notions of responsibility and respect. The fact that Vibe Check has received over 3,500 unique visitors since its launch in mid-March suggests a need for such resources among young people.
Drew Davis, SafeBae’s director of strategic initiatives, highlighted the prevalence of online forums where individuals seek advice on sensitive matters. While these forums may offer a sense of community, they often lack the ethical guidance and responsible oversight that Vibe Check aims to provide. Vibe Check strives to be a reliable source of information grounded in sound moral principles.
